Environmental demands and resources: a framework for understanding the physical environment for work

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the extent which Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory (Demerouti et al. , 2001; Bakker and Demerouti, 2017) an appropriate conceptual framework for understanding physical environment work. Design/methodology/approach A analysis multidisciplinary workplace literature was performed assess core propositions JD-R as they relate environment. Findings confirms that can be viewed a composite environmental demands (which instigate health impairment process) resources trigger engagement process). Employees proactively try improve suitability their workspace through crafting, motivated by minimising maximising resources.
